The city sits in mountains. Streets wind up and down hills. It feels like a smaller, more intimate version of Chongqing. Trust me, the scenery alone is worth the trip.


Getting to Dazhou from Chengdu

You have two main options. Both are straightforward.

High-speed train takes 2.5 hours. Tickets cost about 100 RMB. Trains run every hour from Chengdu East Station.

Driving takes 3.5 hours. The expressway is smooth. But parking in Dazhou can be challenging.

I recommend the 8:00 AM train. You'll arrive fresh at 10:30 AM.

Lotus Lake Wetland Park

Lotus Lake Wetland Park (Liánhuā Hú Shīdì Gōngyuán)

This park is Dazhou's green heart. It covers 200 hectares with multiple islands. My British friend Tom spent three hours walking here.

Don't miss the Bird Watching Tower. Locals call it the "twisting building." The views are spectacular.

Entry is free. The park opens 24 hours. Park at North Gate. The tower is just 5 minutes walk.

Phoenix Mountain

Phoenix Mountain (Fènghuáng Shān)

For panoramic city views, climb this mountain. The peak reaches 600 meters.

You can drive to Phoenix Tower. Parking is available. Then walk 5 minutes to the summit.

Or hike from Xisheng Temple. Follow the clear signs. The climb takes 40 minutes. Steps are well-maintained.

Sanli Ancient Street

Skip Sanli Ancient Street

Sanli Ancient Street (Sānlǐ Gǔjiē) looks beautiful in photos. But it's mostly empty. My German friend Klaus found only two shops open.

The architecture is nice. But don't waste your time here. Visit other places instead.


Best Local Food Streets

Food is Dazhou's real highlight. The city comes alive at night.

Sansheng Palace Food Street (Sānshèng Gōng Měishí Jiē) is my top pick. Try Seven Star Pepper snacks. Don't miss Feng Lili's rice jelly.

Erma Road (Èrmǎ Lù) has amazing street food. Zhangji Pot Rice Noodles cost just 15 RMB. The portion is huge.

Practical Tips for Foreign Travelers

Download a translation app. Few locals speak English.

Bring cash. Many small vendors don't accept cards.

Wear comfortable shoes. Dazhou is hilly.

Taxis are cheap. A ride across town costs 10-15 RMB.

No bike sharing available. The hills are too steep.
