Most tourists visit Sichuan's famous spots. They miss Guang'an. This is Deng Xiaoping's hometown. My Irish friend Marco asked me about it last month.
"Everyone goes to Chengdu. But what about this historical city?" he said. I showed him Guang'an's secrets.
This city is closer to Chongqing than Chengdu. Yet most foreign travelers don't know it exists.
Here's your complete guide to Guang'an. Learn the best routes from both cities. Discover hidden temples and amazing food.

Getting to Guang'an
From Chongqing (Recommended) Take the high-speed train from Chongqing North Station. It takes just 1 hour. Tickets cost 18.5 RMB.
Trains run every hour from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Choose "Guang'an South Station" for city access.
Buses take 2.5 hours and cost 45 RMB. But trains are much more comfortable.
Trust me, the morning train is best. You'll arrive fresh and ready to explore.

From Chengdu The journey takes longer from Chengdu. High-speed trains take 2.5 hours. Tickets cost 85 RMB.
Buses take 4 hours and cost 90 RMB. They're not worth your time.
If you're in Chengdu, consider staying overnight. The long trip makes day trips difficult.
Must-Visit Attractions

Deng Xiaoping's Former Residence Visit Deng Xiaoping's Former Residence (Dèng Xiǎopíng Gùjū). This is China's important historical site.
The complex is huge and well-maintained. Entry is completely free. It opens 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM daily.
Don't miss the main exhibition hall. It shows Deng's life through photos and artifacts.
My UK friend Thomas was impressed. He said "This place explains modern China's story perfectly."

Huaying Mountain Huaying Mountain (Huáyíng Shān) offers amazing hiking. This green lung of eastern Sichuan will surprise you.
The mountain has stone forests and cloud seas. Sunrise and sunset views are incredible.
Autumn is the best season. The red leaves create magical landscapes.
Entry costs 80 RMB. The cable car costs extra but saves time.

Baozhen Fortress Baozhen Fortress (Bǎozhēn Zhài) is a military wonder. This ancient fortress has maze-like corridors.
The stone architecture is impressive. It shows ancient Chinese defense systems.
Locals call it "Sichuan's best defensive miracle." The stone walls tell centuries of stories.
Entry costs 40 RMB. Wear good shoes for climbing.
Local Food Experience

Magge Noodles Try Magge Noodles (Mǎgē Miàn). This is Guang'an's signature dish.
The noodles come with pork liver sauce. A bowl costs 12 RMB.
If you don't like liver, skip this one. The flavor is quite strong.
My Canadian friend Sarah loved it. She said "It's unlike any noodles I've tried before."
Xixi Market Visit Xixi Market (Xīxī Shìchǎng) for breakfast. This local market shows real Guang'an life.
You'll find fresh vegetables, meat, and fruits. Local breakfast snacks cost 5-10 RMB.
The market gets crowded after 8:00 AM. Come early for the best experience.
This place makes my German friend Klaus happy. He says "This is where you see real China."
