Introduction: “I Thought I’d See the Northern Lights… Then I Learned the Truth About China’s Far North”
You’ve heard of Mohe (Mòhé / 漠河), right?
It’s called “China’s North Pole”—a frozen town near Siberia where winter lasts eight months.

Most blogs say: “Go to Mohe for the aurora.”
But here’s the truth: There are no northern lights in Mohe.
The magnetic latitude is too low. Even scientists confirm this.
Still, it’s worth going.
Why?
Because you can stand at "China's northernmost point" (Zhōngguó Zuìběi Duān / 中国最北端), visit reindeer farms, walk through silent birch forests, and feel -40°C air on your face.
Take my friend Diego from Spain. Last January, he flew to Harbin, then took an overnight train to Mohe.He didn’t book a driver in advance. When he arrived at Mohe Railway Station (Mòhé Zhàn / 漠河站) at 10:30 AM, snow was falling. No taxis spoke English. He waited 90 minutes in -32°C cold just to find transport.

That won’t happen if you read this guide.
After helping over 100 international travelers since 2017, I’ll show you exactly how to plan a stress-free 3-day or 5-day trip from Harbin to Mohe Arctic Village—with real schedules, tested routes, and mistakes only foreigners make.
